Garden centers and plant nurseries sell annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, vegetables and houseplants, along with soil, mulch, fertilizer, pots and tools. Independent nurseries often grow part of their own stock and carry varieties that do well in the local climate, while big-box garden departments compete on price for common plants. Wholesale nurseries and growers sell to landscapers and sometimes to the public at volume prices; tree nurseries sell balled-and-burlapped and container trees and can deliver and plant large specimens. Specialty growers focus on bonsai, cactus and succulents, orchids or native plants, and hydroponics stores sell lights, nutrients and systems for growing indoors.

We have bought 2 szechuan pepper trees from Bay Flora over the last 4 years. The plants arrived in great condition and the berries have been abundant. Customer support from Maureen has been tremendous. Our questions are answered very quickly, most almost immediately. Their advice is always spot on. Thank you Bay Flora.

I have been studying and searching for a sansho tree (zanthoxylum piperitum.) Two places offer online but one place just sold out. I'm glad I bought it from Bay Flora. Bay Flora provided a "care sheet" which matches with Japanese websites (I grew up in Japan so I always google in Japanese to cross-refer any plant information.) This sansho tree has thorns so it's not Asakura sansho (thornless, self-fertile; popular in Japan.) I was afraid it could be Inuzansho (dog sansho: zanthoxylum schinifolium) but I just confirmed the one I got is a true sansho ( based on thorn location.) Bottom line, I'm very happy with my purchase: true spice, healthy, packed well, quick shipping, and accurate information. What else can I ask! All I need to do is wait to see its flowers to confirm sex. If Bay Flora allows me to purchase more sansho tree (it says "one per customer") in the future, I will try and see I get male and female trees at the end. Thank you, Bay Flora!!

I wanted a Szechuan pepper tree as a wedding gift for two college friends living in Oregon. They're big foodies and we did a lot of cooking together in the dorms (you'd be amazed what you can make on a hot plate with a little ingenuity) so I wanted a unique foodie gift and figured something for the garden at their new home would be a good idea. Not really sure what I'm doing with plants and didn't want to spoil the surprise so I got ahold of the owner who was VERY helpful. It arrived a few months ago and is still alive so I guess the instructions were good!
